Frequently asked questions

What is Tang Sancai?
Tang Sancai (唐三彩, literally "Tang three colours") is a Chinese low-fired lead-glazed ceramic technique that flourished during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). Molten glazes in amber, green and cream are applied to a white clay body and fired, so the colours run and blend into each other in the kiln. The technique is recognised as part of China's intangible cultural heritage and is still practised by hand in Henan province.
Is every piece identical?
No, and that is the point. Each sculpture is individually hand-sculpted and kiln-fired, and the glaze flows differently in every firing. Small variations in colour balance, crackle and expression are normal characteristics of a handmade ceramic piece, not defects.
Is the sculpture fragile?
It is a fired ceramic piece and should be treated like any fine art object. The high-density ceramic body is solid and heavier than it looks, but sharp knocks and drops can chip the glaze. Place it on a stable surface away from edges.
How do I clean and care for it?
Dust with a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush. For a deeper clean use a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive pads and prolonged soaking, all of which can dull the glaze.
What is your return policy?
We offer a 45-day return window. If the piece arrives damaged or is not what you expected, contact us within 45 days of delivery and we will arrange a resolution.
Do you take custom commissions, and how long do they take?
Yes. Bespoke commissions start from USD 100 and follow this timeline: 1-2 days for the design, 3-5 weeks for production, and 5-10 days for shipping, with a 50% deposit taken up front.
Do you ship worldwide?
Yes. Orders ship internationally from China, securely packed with foam and double-wall cartons for the fragile glaze surface.
How do I contact Wemings?
Email service@wemings.com for questions about a specific piece, bulk or trade orders, and custom commissions.
